The beaches in Cambodia are simply amazing! You often see and listen to quite a bit more about Thailand’s beaches, but there’s something more special concerning the barely quieter beaches in Cambodia. If you’re a beach lover, listed below are the 5 best in Cambodia.
1. Southwest Beach, Koh Rong
This amazing beach, situated within the southwestern a part of the island, isn’t any surprise and stretches for nearly 5 km. White sandy expanses with palm trees and stunning turquoise water; that is your classic paradise beach. It’s also a diver’s dream, and the southernmost area of the beach is rocky and teeming with schools of colourful kingfish, sergeants and parrot fish.
2. Long Set Beach, Koh Rong
Cambodia’s second largest island, Koh Rong, is a spot price visiting now, before the crowds flock to this up-and-coming resort. Long Set Beach is the southernmost cove of the island, named by locals after the farmer who lives there, growing coconuts, mangoes and cashews. The white sandy beaches are currently calm and quiet, and the gentle aquamarine waters are very inviting. You could spend many hours relaxing within the sand, catching crabs and in search of beautiful shells. At night you will probably be treated to an exquisite spectacle. Get a few meter into the water and plankton lights appear! Bioluminescent plankton creates ethereal phosphorescence within the water and any movement within the water; whether soft waves or splashes, create a unbelievable, shiny effect! 3. Koh Thmei Beach, Ream National Park
Well, for something completely different, this beach is made entirely of shells! A very fascinating sight and truly extraordinary, great for photos. And not only shells. Ream National Park is home to a few of the most effective beaches in Cambodia, with Koh Thmei (a mangrove island) being particularly special. The island itself is now virtually uninhabited, with stunningly clear water. At the tip, by the boat dock, you will find a shell beach, but east of the dock there’s a stupendous, unspoilt stretch of yellow sand – quite comfortable for lazing around! It can also be a terrific place for bird watching, as several dozen species live to tell the tale the island.
4. Lazy beach, Koh Rong Samloem
Its 1km of golden sand is shaded by pine trees and is totally pristine because of day by day sweeping. It’s also a terrific beach for snorkeling, and there are two great snorkeling spots at each end of the bay. Behind the beach there’s a stupendous area of grassland that extends about 100m to the jungle beyond. There can also be a bar on the beach, so at the tip of a busy day, relaxing, it’s hard to assume a more perfect end than having fun with a tropical cocktail while watching a surprising sunset.
5. Sokha Beach, Sihanoukville
This pretty beach is privately owned and has an extended beach (1.5 km) with superb white sand and shallow, protected water. It’s very quiet, partly because no stalls are allowed on the beach, so it’s a terrific place to loosen up and the water is ideal for swimming. Only a small section on the eastern end is open to the general public since the local Sokha Beach Resort owns much of it. If you usually are not a hotel guest, you’ll be able to still purchase a day pass and in addition gain access to the resort’s swimming pool.
