Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad and his Pakistani counterpart Imran Khan on Friday witnessed the symbolic groundbreaking ceremony for the development of an assembly plant for Malaysian national carmaker Proton within the country.
According to the Malaysian National News Agency (Bernama), Pakistan shall be the primary foreign completely demolished (CKD) factory to supply Proton vehicles.
The assembly plant shall be built near Karachi in Sindh province shall be Proton’s first factory within the South Asian region.
Both Prime Ministers also witnessed the signing of agreements/memoranda of understanding between Malaysian and Pakistani corporations.
The signing concerned Edotco Towers Pakistan Pvt. Limited with Pakistan Mobile Communication Limited and Deodar Pvt. Sp. z o. o.; Edotco Towers Pakistan Sp. Limited from Telenor Pakistan Limited; and Edotco Towers Pakistan Pvt. Limited with CMPAK Limited (Zong).
edotco Group CEO Datuk Azzat Kamaludin said: “Pakistan and Malaysia enjoy healthy bilateral relations and our continued investment reaffirms not only Malaysia’s commitment to strengthening these ties but in addition edotco’s.

To date, edotco Group’s operations in Pakistan have grown to roughly 1,000 fully operational towers across the country and employ roughly 110 telecommunications professionals.
Thanks to its local operations, the corporate invested over US$110 million in 2018 to develop local operations.
The investments announced on March 23 are a part of the $250 million the corporate plans to take a position over the following five years.
Earlier, Dr Mahathir and Imran participated in a roundtable meeting with captains of industry from Malaysia and Pakistan.
Dr Mahathir has been on a three-day working visit to Pakistan since Thursday.
