Changi Airport shines again: winner of the Best Airport Immigration Service and 2nd Best Baggage Handler

Singapore’s Changi Airport has once more captured the world’s attention by winning the 2024 World’s Best Airport Immigration Service award and coming second for bags handling facilities, in line with a passenger survey conducted by Skytrax, a British air travel rating organisation.

Changi can be the one airport in Southeast Asia to be ranked in the highest two categories.

Changi Airport is already well-known for its automated check-in process, biometric authentication system and use of AI for bags handling. The airport can be known for its modern facilities, duty-free shops, indoor rainforest and the world’s highest indoor waterfall.

Zurich Airport comes second on the list, followed by Bahrain International Airport, Incheon International Airport in South Korea and Taoyuan International Airport in Taiwan.

At the highest of the luggage delivery category is Kansai Airport in Osaka, Japan. Since opening in September 1994, the airport has handled 20 to 30 million passengers per 12 months with none loss or damage to baggage.

Bahrain Airport got here third, followed by Doha Hamad Airport in Qatar and Nagoya Airport in Japan.

Skytrax compiled the list by conducting passenger satisfaction surveys between August 2023 and March 2024. The evaluation was based on a wide range of data points to evaluate passenger experiences.

In the Best Airport Immigration Services study, analysts assessed passenger experiences based on facets resembling waiting times, queuing systems, priority lanes, the efficiency of electronic check-in gate systems, and the responsiveness and courtesy of immigration control staff.

Meanwhile, within the evaluation of bags delivery facilities, the standards included waiting time in the luggage claim hall, efficiency of bags delivery and speed of response to lost baggage.
