Indonesians can now buy US-made Tesla Model X luxury electric cars starting at $200,000.
As reported by The Jakarta Post, Prestige Image Motorcars, the only distributor of Tesla cars in Indonesia, has began displaying one among the cars at its showroom in Pluit, North Jakarta.
Prestige President and CEO Rudy Salim said his company began receiving orders for the automotive in June, with deliveries starting in September.
“Tesla cars have good prospects in the Indonesian market, considering that they are not the most expensive supercars in the country,” Rudy said.
Each Telsa automotive is provided with a battery that enables it to travel as much as 350 kilometers (217 miles), which is way over Indonesians typically need, Rudy said.
Indonesian Automobile Manufacturers Association (Gaikindo) director Jongkie Sugiarto said Tesla cars may have their fans in Indonesia.
However, he added that luxury cars are a part of a selected and limited market that will not be experiencing significant growth.
According to Gaikindo, domestic sales of diesel and petrol cars in the primary 4 months of the yr rose 5.71 percent to 373,407 from 352,072 in the identical period of 2016.

As of December 2016, global deliveries had totaled greater than 25,000 units, and after only one full yr available on the market, the Model X was the world’s seventh-best-selling plug-in automotive.
