This company will supply Indonesia’s high-speed trains

A contract value about $364.5 million has been awarded to CRRC Qingdao Sifang for a fleet of 11 eight-car trains with a design speed of 350 km/h that can serve the 142.3-km Jakarta-Bandung high-speed line. The train is scheduled to open in 2019.

The agreement is a component of an engineering, procurement and construction contract awarded to a consortium of Indonesian and Chinese firms by the Kereta Cepat Indonesia-China (KCIC) three way partnership on April 4. On the identical day, the High Speed Railway Contract Consortium (HSRCC) signed a 50-year concession for design, construction, maintenance and operation with KCIC.

The $5.5 billion project is being financed 75 percent by the China Development Bank, with KCIC arranging the remaining 25 percent.

The recent line will reduce travel time between Jakarta and Bandung to about 40 minutes, compared with about three hours on the present 173km, 1,067mm-gauge line.
