Servant of Satan The film terrified audiences in Indonesia when it first hit screens and was even shown within the United States and Japan. It stays a global cult hit to this present day.
The reboot of the classic ’80s horror film pulled in 1 million viewers in its first week of release while earning 13 nominations across 22 categories on the annual Indonesian Film Festival (FFI) 2017 — becoming one of the nominated movies on the event.
What’s more, the horror film’s leading star, Malaysian-Thai writer Bront Palarae, has also develop into a hot topic amongst Indonesian netizens.
The film stars Bapak, whose wife has been dead for 3 years. Bront was dubbed “Hot Daddy” because netizens had apparently lost interest within the horror within the film.
Instead, they were too distracted and charmed by the allure of 39-year-olds.

In one other tweet, @nidyarizki tagged Joko and wrote, “If there is a sequel, please include Bapak Bront, okay? Ooh, hot daddy.”
@ombotaakk tweeted: “After this, Bront will certainly be more desirable in Indonesia.”

Malay Mail reports that although he has enjoyed some success overseas, he has never forgotten his roots and the Malaysian entertainment industry that has helped him.
“It’s not that I don’t want to accept any job offers in Malaysia, but I haven’t received any that I couldn’t resist. Accepting offers from foreign filmmakers will enrich my experience and knowledge as an actor, and I want to remain relevant in Malaysia when I return.”
According to CNN Indonesia, Joko asked Bront to assist find the suitable actor to play Bapak. When they failed, the role ultimately went to Bront.
Before working on this film, Bront, whose real name is Nasrul Suhaimin Saifuddin, starred within the HBO Asia original series Halfworlds, produced and developed entirely in Indonesia and directed by Joko, in 2015.
It was followed by the Indonesian-Malaysian romantic comedy My Stupid Boss (2016) and the Indonesian martial arts film Headshot (2016). Pengabdi Setan is Bront’s third Indonesian film.
