Britain’s Prince Charles will visit Singapore later this month as a part of a tour of Southeast Asia, where he’ll meet President Halimah Yacob and Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong and attend a series of events.
Prince Charles and his wife Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, might be welcomed by President Halimah at a ceremony on the Istana, the prince’s office said in a press release on Wednesday (October 4). They can even meet with the Prime Minister before the state dinner.
This is the Duchess’s first official visit to Singapore, while the Duke’s last official visit took place in March 1979.
Other events in the course of the three-day visit will include a gathering with leaders of Singapore’s 10 national religions “to highlight Singapore’s innovative approach to social cohesion”, an event with representatives of British firms operating in Singapore, and an event to have a good time cultural cooperation between the UK and Singapore.
Prince Charles can even attend a wreath-laying ceremony to honour the sacrifices made by British, Singaporean and Commonwealth soldiers in the course of the two world wars and other conflicts, a press release said.
The Duchess will visit the varsity to fulfill young individuals who want to participate within the Queen’s Commonwealth Essay Competition, a world writing competition for the oldest schools on the earth. She will present certificates to the 2017 winners and finalists on behalf of Queen Elizabeth at an official awards ceremony at Buckingham Palace in November.
According to The Straits Times, after Singapore, the couple will travel to Malaysia, where they’ll have a good time 60 years of diplomatic relations because the former British colony gained independence, before ending their 11-day trip in India.
“We have been considering a range of options in the region and, as we are announcing today, we will continue to visit Singapore and Malaysia,” Philip Malone, deputy head of department on the British Foreign and Commonwealth Office, told reporters.
