Indonesia wins marketing award for best travel destination

The great Indonesia recently gained one other accolade by winning the title of Best Marketing Destination 2016 from Travel Weekly Asia. The award, presented on the Honorarium the Best in Travel Industry event held on the Mandarin Orchard in Singapore on October 17, 2016, was personally presented by Northstar Travel Group’s President, Robert G Sullivan, Associate Deputy for International Marketing, ASEAN, Ms. Rizki Handayani Mustafa on behalf of the Minister of Tourism of Indonesia, Arief Yahya.

“Thank you Travel Weekly Asia! This is indeed an uplifting achievement. The Wonderful Indonesia brand has gained recognition all over the world. What makes this event special is that it is now common knowledge how Indonesia promotes our travel destinations, which has proven to be very effective indeed,” said Rizki Handayani.

And what made the destination marketing of wonderful Indonesia receive such a positive response from Travel Weekly Asia readers? These are the next activities in step with the strategy outlined by Tourism Minister Arief Yahya: First, an intensive branding, promoting and sales (BAS) promotional strategy implemented from 2015 to mid-2016, which significantly raised the Wonderful Indonesia brand worldwide. Data from the World Economic Forum (WEF) revealed that Indonesia has jumped from NA (unavailable) to forty seventh place in its Travel and Tourism Competitiveness Index, rating among the many top 144 countries.

Secondly, Indonesia’s marketing continues to give attention to destinations which can be ready with the 3A elements (attraction, accessibility, amenities). For this reason, in the primary yr, marketing focused on the three important international gateways that are Bali, Jakarta and the Riau Islands (Batam-Bintan). This was followed by intensive promotion and marketing of 10 recent priority destinations, that are expected to draw a complete of 20 million tourists from abroad by 2019.

Third, deregulatory policies affect the tourism sectors to facilitate the arrival of holiday makers to the country. These are: primarily, issuing free visas for tourists to Indonesia to 169 countries. Secondly, removing cabotage regulations affecting cruise ships to permit foreign cruise ships to embark and disembark passengers at designated Indonesian ports. The five assigned seaports are: Belawan in Medan, Tanjung Priok in Jakarta, Tanjung Perak in Surabaya, Benoa in Bali and Makassar. Another deregulation was allowing yachts to enter Indonesian territorial waters (CAIT), which previously took 3 weeks to be processed, now the regulations have been significantly reduced in order that the method takes just a couple of days.
