Indonesia and Finland will finally conduct research on antibiotic resistance, which is a threat in various places world wide. As deputy chairperson for Agro-Industrial Technology and Biotechnology Assessment and Application of Technology (BPPT), Eniya Listiano Dewi said: “Because antibiotic resistance is characterized by drug-resistant germs. So antibiotics have no effect on humans.”
Therefore, BPPT and the University of Helsinki (UH) in Finland collaborated to conduct an antibiotic resistance study. Nowadays, antibiotics haven’t only been used to treat humans, but additionally in animal husbandry and fishing. Excessive use of antibiotics will result in the event of antibiotic resistance. These bacteria have learned to outsmart drugs and breed a generation that’s stronger and more resistant.
Unfortunately, antibiotics have polluted the environment, especially rivers. Rivers were often used to remove substances containing antibiotics. Healthcare facilities, livestock and fisheries might help remove antibiotics from the river. The research can be carried out in two rivers which have been contaminated with antibiotic substances and can be intensively studied, comparable to the Cisadane and Kalicode.
