Vietnam participated within the third Partnering for Green Growth and Global Goals 2030 (P4G) summit in Bogotá, Colombia, and successfully received the precise to host the fourth summit in 2025.
During the third summit held on September 22-23, Minister of Natural Resources and Environment Dang Quoc Khanh expressed gratitude to other P4G members for supporting Vietnam in organizing the subsequent event.
He also stressed Vietnam’s commitment to do its best to meet its role as host, and looked forward to learning from and receiving support from Colombia and other countries.
These include pressing global issues reminiscent of food security, poverty reduction, sustainable cross-border water management, establishing and operationalizing early warning systems, and monitoring the consequences of climate change.
Vietnam also stressed the importance of monetary support to realize net zero emissions targets and promote the transition to equitable energy, promote sustainable carbon-sensitive agricultural practices, and support a circular economy to handle the plastic problem.
During the third P4G Summit, Minister Khanh held bilateral meetings with numerous high-level officials, including the Deputy Minister of Denmark, the Deputy Minister of Environment of the Republic of Korea (RoK), the President and CEO of the World Resources Institute, and the Executive Director of P4G.
The partners greatly appreciated Vietnam’s proactive stance by proposing to host the fourth P4G Summit in 2025. They also committed to working with Vietnam to make the event successful and strengthen P4G’s role in supporting climate motion all over the world.
The third P4G meeting, hosted by the Government of Colombia, was attended by roughly 500 delegates from 12 countries and partner organizations. The event was launched under the theme “Transformational Alliances for Sustainable Development: Actions for Green Growth and Living” and focused on issues reminiscent of biodiversity, energy transition and sustainable urban development.
The meeting reiterated the importance of sustainable economic growth for economic recovery efforts and the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals. The event also encouraged all countries to create conditions enabling the private sector to play a crucial role in promoting technological solutions, innovation, financial support for sustainable transformation and creating recent jobs in green economy sectors.
P4G, originally often called the Global Green Growth Forum (3GF), was established in 2017 on the initiative of the Danish government. P4G currently consists of 12 member countries, including Denmark, Chile, Mexico, Vietnam, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Ethiopia, Kenya, Colombia, the Netherlands, Bangladesh, Indonesia and South Africa. The organization also cooperates with over 90 countries, international organizations and corporations.
P4G is widely known as a world forum for fostering collaboration between the private and non-private sectors, bringing together governments, businesses and social policy organizations to develop revolutionary solutions for sustainable economic growth in support of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Additionally, P4G Summits are held every two years.
