The World Swimming Championships shall be held in Singapore in 2025 after the Russian city of Kazan was stripped of hosting duties following Moscow’s invasion of Ukraine, regulatory body FINA announced on Thursday.
The events shall be held for the primary time in a Southeast Asian metropolis. It is predicted that over 2,500 competitors will participate within the competition.
In addition to hosting the World Aquatics Championships in Fukuoka this 12 months and Doha in 2024, Asia is showing “exceptional commitment and skill” in hosting the world’s best aquatic athletes, based on FINA president Husain Al-Musallam.
The exact championship times haven’t been published by FINA.
After Budapest (2022), Fukuoka in Japan (2023) and Doha in February 2024, five months before the Paris Olympics, winning the swimming world title shall be an unprecedented fourth in a row.
Before the Covid-19 pandemic modified the international sports schedule, the World Aquatics Championships were held every two years.
Swimming, diving, water polo, creative swimming and the non-Olympic sport of high diving are among the many water worlds. Although the dates for the competition in Singapore haven’t yet been set, it will likely be decided in June and July.
Kazan was initially chosen to host the 2025 World Cup in 2019, but for the reason that invasion of Ukraine, the country has lost the suitable to host international events. Budapest was also chosen to host the 2027 World Cup in 2019.
