IF you have not found a reason to go to Malaysia (Melaka, to be precise) anytime soon, here’s a reasonably good one.
In 2020, Melaka, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, will welcome its largest water theme park, adding to the growing list of attractions the destination already boasts.
Listed company Hatten Land said on Tuesday (Aug 7) that it plans to construct a RM200 million (S$67 million) water theme park, the biggest in Malacca, Malaysia, in partnership with resort operator Samsung C&T Corporation and Polin Waterparks, a number one designer and installer of water slides.
The 500,000-square-foot Splash World @ Harbor City park can be positioned between two 30-story towers on the 14th floor of the flagship Harbor City @ Melaka project, a mixed-use development in the form of a big ship, the Malaysian developer said on the Singapore Stock Exchange filing during a break for lunch on the market square.
Completed by the top of 2019 and opened to the general public in the primary half of 2020, it should be considered one of the biggest water parks within the region, which can be utilized by as much as 5,200 people day by day, based on Hatten Land.
The project cooperation agreement was signed by the three partners within the presence of Malacca Chief Minister Adly Zahari, she added.
Hatten Land will develop the project, South Korea’s Samsung C&T will function operational advisor and consultant, and Turkey-based Polin Waterparks will design and produce the water slide attractions.
The four-story theme park boasts over a kilometer of water slides. The artificial river will wind through two floors and mix over 50 attractions, including 11 extreme slides for thrill seekers, Sky Beach and a water play park for kids, the corporate says.
After dark, the park can be illuminated by the “Cosmic Waters” light show, accompanied by a water circus, trapeze acrobatics and other attractions in a special amphitheater.
Harbor City, which consists of a shopping center, a water theme park and three hotel blocks, has a built-up area of 4.5 million square feet and has a complete estimated gross development value of RM2.2 billion, Hatten Land said.
