Coca-Cola Co opened a brand new $100 million plant in Cambodia’s capital Phnom Penh on Monday to expand its production capability within the Southeast Asian country.
The plant, positioned on a 12-hectare site in a special economic zone on the outskirts of town, will employ 817 people and will likely be powered by solar energy, Prime Minister Hun Sen said on the inauguration ceremony.
The investment is a component of Coca-Cola’s expansion that began 4 years ago, said Irial Finan, executive vice chairman of Coca-Cola.
The company began operations within the country in 1993, and the brand new plant is positioned throughout the Phnom Penh Special Economic Zone (PPSEZ), a Cambodian-Japanese three way partnership and operator of the biggest industrial estate.
Hun Sen said Cambodia might want to train more human resources, construct the crucial infrastructure and supply low-cost electricity to reply to growing interest within the country’s industrial and light-weight manufacturing sectors.
“This shows that we don’t discriminate against any foreign investments,” Hun Sen said, adding that on Wednesday, a brand new plant of the Japanese company Minebea Co, a manufacturer of machine parts and electronic devices, will likely be opened on the PPSEZ premises.
