Lion Air’s chief technical officer ‘faraway from duties’ after fatal crash that killed 189 people

Indonesia’s transport minister has ordered the dismissal of Lion Air’s chief technology officer and a number of other technicians linked to a deadly plane crash that killed 189 people, state news agency Antara reported on Wednesday, citing government authority over the aviation industry.

“Today we’ll remove Lion’s chief technical officer from his duties and replace him with another person, in addition to the technical staff” who approved the departure, Budi Karya Sumadi said.

The crash has renewed safety concerns in Indonesia’s fast-growing aviation industry, which was recently faraway from European Union and U.S. blacklists.
